Discovering Utah’s Goblin Valley

Saturday was a beautiful day to drive out of Salt Lake City and see what Utah has to offer. My brother and I were up for a drive and light hike, we decided to go and see Goblin Valley Park. We visited this thrilling place back in November and the weather was absolutely perfect. The land travel took us almost 4 hours to get there, from Salt Lake.

Goblin Valley is found just north of Hanksville on Highway 24. Google map helped us out with the navigation and we took the liberty to make couple of stop overs along the way since it has been a while since my brother and I actually did an out of town.

Goblin Valley State Park has been formed by wind and water eroding what is said to be uneven sections of soft and hard sandstone, according to research. The softer sandstone is carved away by the common breezes and effects of rain and snow and harder portion of sediment remain, leaving the mushroom-like formation. See photos of red rock formation aka hoodoos.

Does it remind you of little martians? We had a great time exploring Goblin Valley!
IF YOU PLAN ON VISITING GOBLIN VALLEY STATE SPARK:

You can do a half day tour or you can do can do camping overnight to further explore surrounding San Rafael Wilderness. The place is pretty quiet so tranquility will be superb.

Couple of recommendations I have for anyone who plans on visiting

  • Ideal time to visit: Spring and Fall. If Summer time, afternoon would be very unpleasant.
  • Cost: Per Vehicle $15
  • Visitor Center Hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
